Woolwich – On March 21, 2012, the Kingsway Education Association, in association with the Kingsway Regional School District, will host their second annual Teacher for a Day program. For the entire school day,residents from a cross-section of the community will experience the role of a teacher at Kingsway Regional.

Mayor Fred Grant from East Greenwich, Mayor Sam Maccarone from Woolwich, owner of the popular Sweetsboro Bakery in Swedesboro, Karen Morrison and Police Chief Barry Jenkins of the East Greenwich Police Force, will be among several prominent community leaders bringing their expertise and serving asteachers for a day in the high school and in the middle school.

Dr. James Lavender, Superintendent at Kingsway Regional commented, "The impact a teacher has on student development is far-reaching and often misunderstood in our society. The daily responsibilities involved in good teaching involve thorough planning, managing behavior, and motivating learners to reach their potential. Our Teacher for a Day program has re-introduced this noble profession to members of our community and participants have left the classroom with a deeper appreciation of the role a teacher plays in our society."

Sue McAnally, president of the KEA stated, “The Teacher for a Day program presents an opportunity for community members to see what it is our teachers are doing every day. Education has changed a great dealsince most of us went to school, and it is important for the community to understand those changes.”

The Kingsway Education Association feels this program enables the members of the community not only to teach under the guidance of their cooperating teachers, but also interact with students and faculty.

We invite the Press and other media professionals to visit these classrooms between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to interview guest teachers. There will be an after school reception, which will be held in honor of the community members who volunteered for the program, upon the conclusion of the school day (2:30 p.m.) in the High School Media Center.
